A gadol (maybe Rav Yitzchak Hutner) said that what inspired him most in his life was that his mother made a grand siyum when he made his first siyum. It was perhaps not even a siyum that an adult could say the hadran and kaddish, but as a boy, it was a significant accomplishment. She set their dining room table as for Shabbos – during the week, and told the entire family to dress in Shabbos begadim (clothing)! Just seeing her caring and respect for what he was doing, inspired him greatly!

The cake story is amazing. I would just suggest to a person in that situation – or any such similar situation where one has a powerful lesson or insight, SAY IT TO THE OTHERS! Even though they may respond that THEY have NOT had such an experience, you never know; maybe they’ll remember something similar from their youth, and/or maybe they'll be so inspired by your sincerity that they'll follow you back! And even if not, it still inspires them deep down. (At least we have the story now!)
